About
Keith Jones and Keith Parsons, are the founding directors of L&D Contracting.
Born and raised in the United Kingdom, the Keith’s, known as ‘KJ’ and ‘KP’, became life-long mates whilst working for Wimpey, Costain and Cementation on some iconic construction projects in the UK. These projects included the M4, M6, M23, M25 Motorways and Heathrow International Airport Runway where the Keith’s developed their skills operating large excavators, face shovels, dozers and scrapers as well as supervising earthwork operations, organising and maintaining plant.
In 1974 they decided to travel the world in search of adventure and new experiences and eventually arrived in Australia where they settled in Brisbane and worked for L&D Plant Hire from where they launched L&D Contracting in 1981.
Company History
L&D Contracting roots go back to 1954 when a partnership was formed between Harley Lomax and Ted Draisey to undertake building and civil works in Northern Australia; early projects included a mission station at Alice Springs (NT) and a sewerage treatment plant in Atherton (N. Qld).
Successful projects in Mareeba, Port Douglas and Ingham led the company south to Gladstone, Gympie and eventually Brisbane where a permanent base was established.
In 1964, the company was divided to enable Ted Draisey to pursue earthmoving and plant hire and the company then trading as L&D Plant Hire, increased plant acquisition and became established as one of Queensland’s largest and most comprehensive plant hire fleets. Ongoing development and expansion resulted in the restructuring and diversification of the company beyond plant hire and in 1981, L&D Contracting was formed to specifically contract directly to the building and civil infrastructure industries.
Under the sole ownership of Keith Jones and Keith Parsons, L&D Contracting spearheaded building early works by providing complete demolition, excavation and retention packages, and in 1995 pioneered concrete recycling and remediation of contaminated building sites. Further development during 2000 saw L&D Contracting become the first contractor in Brisbane to specialise in providing full design and construction services for basement excavation by bringing together professional structural and geotechnical engineers jointly with piling, anchor, and concrete and excavation trades under a single umbrella.
Today, with feet firmly set within the building and civil excavation industry, L&D Contracting are a diversified organisation that includes heavy plant, trucking and undertaking their own major land developments and building projects.
